Description

Katie Laur, a bluegrass and jazz artist, writer and radio personality, was born in Paris, Tennessee, the Home of the Eifel Silo. Katie joined Jim McCall, Vernon McIntyre and the Appalachian Grass in the early 70s after hearing them perform at Aunt Maudies on Main St. in Cincinnati. She left that band in 1974 and began playing with Wayne Clyburn on banjo and Don Parker on mandolin; and in 1975, she formed a full-time road band, consisting of Jeff Roberts on banjo, Buddy Griffin on fiddle, Jeff Terflinger on mandolin, and Rich Flaig on bass. They were immediately popular at festivals and stage shows, such as A Prairie Home Companion and Mountain Stage. They played such prestigious festivals as The Lexington Festival of the Bluegrass, The American Festival of the Bluegrass in Louisville, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, festivals at Dahlonega, Georgia, Elizabethtown, Tennessee, Cosby, Tennessee, riverboat festivals in West Virginia with Katies friend, John Hartford, the Carter Family Festival, and too many others to name. Since November of 1989 Katie has hosted the radio program "Music From The Hills Of Home" on WNKU 89.7. Along with "the guy who plays Wayne" (Wayne Clayburn), they have continued to present the best in bluegrass music with a charm and a familiar rapport that reminds you of exactly what the show's title describes, the hills of home.
